FHI

The Fjord Horse International Association’s AGM
May 30, 2008
NORWAY

Brian and Ursula Jensen, from beautiful British Columbia,  attended the festivities in Norway and have just returned.  The following is a summary of the events and activities.

In 2005, the Canadian Fjord Horse Association became a member of the Fjord Horse International Association.

FHI is based in Norway, the Mother Country of the Norwegian Fjord Horse. Although starting as a Corporation in the late 90’s, FHI was founded as an International Association in 2001.  The main objectives of the FHI are to keep the Fjord Horse as a typical breed according to the guidelines in the Norwegian description of the breed, and, to work for the acknowledgement and distribution of the Fjord Horse throughout the world.

Norway released one BOD position to “America” three years ago.   The FHI nominating committee chose Brian Jensen to be the “American” BOD member.  He represents Canada and the USA at BOD meetings and in all correspondence.

The FHI AGM was held on May 30 and all FHI member countries have one recognized vote at the meeting.  Ursula represented the CFHA, and Brian the FHI BOD for “America”.

At the FHI AGM, three new members were elected to the BOD.  Michelle Svea from Norway, Maureen (daughter of Bob von Bon) from Holland, and Birgit Mortenson from Denmark.  Birgit is serving in the FHI Vice-President's position.  A special thanks was given to Eike from Germany and Ode from Switzerland for their years of voluntary service to FHI as they
left the FHI BOD.  A full report will appear in the next newsletter.

On the same day as the FHI AGM, the Norges Fjordhestlage and FHI presented a one day Breeders Seminar for all international guests and Norwegian members.  The Breeders’ Conference was held in English, lasting 5 hours, with five presenters, on various topics.  Brian received permission from the Norwegian officials to record the seminar.

He is offering DVDs for sale to help offset the cost of his trip:
